What this job actually involves

Solar panel and loft conversion check — how it works here

Solar panel and loft conversion check in Chester

Installers and builders prefer to know what is beneath the roof covering before they price a job. We record the foam and the condition of the timber, so nobody is caught out part-way through the work. The report can be sent directly to your installer or builder if you wish.

Why check the roof before building work starts

What installers and builders need to know

Solar brackets, roof windows and dormers all pass through or lean on the roof structure. Foam on the battens and rafters can alter how fixings bite and can hide the timber they depend on. Contractors would rather learn that at the quoting stage than discover it when the first tile comes off, by which time the job and the price are already agreed.

What we hand over

You get photographs of the foam in place, a note of its type and depth, and moisture readings on timber we could reach. The report also lists parts of the roof we could not see, so nothing is implied that we did not check. Your contractor can read it alone, or you can forward it with the quote request so every firm is pricing from the same information, rather than each making its own assumptions.

Timing and fee

The check is the standard £195 survey, with the report in your inbox within 24 hours. Booking it before you sign a contract with an installer is the cheapest moment, because the findings may change the scope of the work, the timing or even the choice of firm. If removal looks sensible first, we give a separate written quote afterwards, and you decide in your own time.
